as the night deepened in its severity, you were swerving atop the disarray like that of a fallen angel. no matter how inhuman it felt, your duty was inevitable, as was the cause that came alongside it. you were a soldier. you, and your family. well, they weren’t linked to you through blood, but through experience, and even sorrow. as far blood relative, you were sure that you were nearing the final remnants of your family tree.

you win some, you lose some. even through all of the heartbreak and the waste, you'd managed to gain one thing. one beautiful, perplexing thing. well, it was more of a person than it was a thing; your love, your life, your will to move on— your connie. while you'd only become an item recently, you and connie's feelings toward one another go back, and far. in all honesty, you couldn't exactly recall when it was you first started loving him. and with his feeble memory, you were sure that it went both ways. fortunately, you can't bring yourself to care all that much about the past. you were living in the now, and turbulently so.

currently, you were in the midst of a mission. an intense one, at that. while each and every one of your assignments served with severe purpose, this one in particular wasn't meant to be taken lightly. after all, this had to be your very first time off of the island. not only were you standing on unfamiliar soil, but you were also standing within the core of an established battle between two entirely seperate worlds— that fact alone was enough dangerous as it was exhilarating.

however, the said battle was soon coming to a close, and it was nearing the end of your abrupt visit at the marleyan headquarters. the assignment was meant to be brief, if not a little tightly knit. you were to fight alongside the opposing combatants, retrieve your distant comrade, eren jaeger, and retreat immediately. and while you were still a bit skeptical of the literal aircraft you'd be traveling on, it was surely something you could get used to.

standing alongside your given sector of the battlefield, you were preparing for takeoff. due to having excelled in hand to hand combat during your time as a trainee, you were put closer to the ground than the rest of your associates, much to your worried boyfriend's dismay. as always, he fretted over you. if you so pleased, you could drop him on his ass whenever you'd like. even so, it always felt as if your capabilities were underestimated.

nevertheless, this wasn't the time nor the place for you to sulk in your own bitterness. soon, you'd be home. in the mere matter of hours, you'd be back within the comfortable abode of your home, cozied up in the arms of your beloved. in the moment, that's all you could bring yourself to even think about. you were tired, you were. if anything, the fighting only drained you. you were drained, and the only one able to comfort you was halfway across the battlefield, fighting the same fight as you. once you were to rejoice on the aircraft, you would be sure to pester him for the affection you craved ever so intensely.

with that being said, a call from afar was quick to pull you out of your own head and back to reality. from across the calloused ground that you stood upon, a familiar face waved in your direction.

"y/n!" they would call, "we're boarding— it's time to go home."

at that, you wasted no time in gathering yourself. with a nod, you readied your gear, intertwining your fingertips in between the metallic leashes that resided on your hips. with a single jolt, you propell yourself forwards, releasing your gear's wires onto the nearest rooftop. the moment your feet left the ground, you headed toward the jet. alas, your work here was done.

just as your comrade had said, it was time to go home.

while the carnage beneath you served as a grim reminder of just how destructive your livelihood was, it was the thought of returning to your sweet home within the walls that urged you to look away. a fire had been lit upon your very own accord, and you despised this war. still, it was your war to fight, and with good reason. at least, that's what you told yourself.

as your team's blimp came into view, your voyage into the sky became rushed. clearly, you were aching to leave. little did you know that below the latches of your ODM gear, a tiny pair of copper hues were watching you; and with the utmost fury.

with that final clasp hooking to the aircraft's entrance, you swiftly flew into the air, inured hands grasping at the rescue ropes that fluttered against the metal exterior. the air serving a harsh breeze against your skin, you climbed to the door. however, before you could pull yourself in, a hand reached out to your aid.

"come," the voice would say, earning quite the look from you. to your immediate relief, it was the exact person you'd been meaning to see. looking down at you from within the jet was connie, his arm extended out toward you. and while you couldn't exactly see it due to the circumstances, there was a faint glimmer of consolation poured within his golden hues. thank god, you were alright.

taking hold of his hand, you allowed him to pull you up, bringing you into the craft with such a force, you'd have assumed he was angry with you. however, you knew that that wasn't the case— he was relieved, in the same way that you were. and immediately, he began checking you of any possible harm.

"how are you?" he'd ask, fingers moving to pinch at your cheeks. you only winced at the feeling, the literal life being squeezed out of your face as your boyfriend hurriedly scanned you. this was an occurrence that happened at the end of each and every expedition, much to your displeasure. "are you hurt? anything happen while we were seperated? i didn't realize it'd get so hectic, or else i would have-"

in the midst of his banter, you would only place your hands on his forearms, lowering his touch from either side of your face. gently, you would give them a squeeze, providing him with that reassurance that he desperately needed. softly, you would smile, "i'm okay. by the looks of it, most of us are. that's good."

with a sigh, connie would nod. after all, you were right. only few soldiers were injured, and from what the two of you could tell, most of them were coming home. considering the rare occurrence, you could only smile.

from the corner of your eye, you could see more and more comrades boarding the aircraft. and with time, a particularly familiar face would pull himself on board. having made himself out to be quite the leader, it brought warmth to your core to see jean return safely. the same went for your other friends, of course— sasha, mikasa, armin, and so on. at this point in time, you couldn't even classify them as friends. they were family.

seeing as though your lover was quietly waiting to reconcile with the others, you would lay a brief pat to his shoulder. "i'm gonna put up my gear," you'd say, bringing yourself up to your feet. "while i do that, you ought to thank those two for making it through."

with a nod, he would comply. as always, you were the one to nudge him in the right direction. it was your straightforwardness that balanced out connie's constant uncertainty, adding yet another reason as to why the two of you were simply perfect. without any further discussion, he would make his way over to the entrance of the jet, rejoicing with jean and sasha. as he did, you made your way to the compartment sector of the craft, stowing away your gear. after all, there wasn't any further need for it.

as you situated yourself for the trip back to paradis, you would exchange small talk with your fellow soldiers, both congratulating and thanking those who made it back alive. because truly, you were thankful. it wasn't often that you gain such a victory. though, as time went on and you'd circled your way through the plane, you found yourself headed right back to where your heart lingered.

sitting along the back of the carrier, you saw your love hooked in the middle of his fabulous trio of friends, pulling an immediate smile out of you. he was yet to see you, but you could see him. with both of his arms latched onto the other two, you could hear his quiet confession from where you stood.

"it's not very fair to the others, but you guys are special ... to me."

not wanting to spoil the three's moment, you would only watch. it was the tender silence that stitched together a memorable matter of seconds, despite the circumstances. from a fair couple of feet away, you smiled. unfortunately for you, he was able to catch it.

"and you," connie would add, quickly reaching over to grasp your hand, "you're no different."

melting into his touch, all you could do was interlock your fingers in his own, lips tipping in yet another smile. taking advantage of the opportunity, the boy would pull you into his shared embrace, tugging you in between him and the other two. the iron outline of your uniform managed to graze jean's side, causing quite the exclamation: "ouch, jackasses. don't go for the hug when you're covered head-to-toe in metal."

of course, you would only ignore the brunette's antics, further sinking into the heavenly embrace of your lover. with your cheek pressed against his chest and his fingers tracing along the locks of your hair, you immediately felt at ease. this was home.

"now, now," sasha would coo, adjusting her ponytail, "now isn't the time to overflow the aircraft in your PDA, lovebirds. when do we get to eat?"

pulling your head from connie's chest, you would let out a chuckle, "not until we land, sasha. you do realize we're in the air, right?"

"ah," the girl would sigh, sheepishly moving to scratch the back of her neck. adjusting yourselves, the bunch of you moved to your feet, "i suppose i haven't quite adjusted just yet. just three years ago, we relied on our horses for everything."

"yeah," jean would add, "somehow, it feels like that was just yesterday."

now that you were all situated, the four of you shifted further towards the rest of your team, who were all dancing and shouting in celebration. you hadn't even realized how elated everyone was, having been so focused on the others. out of everyone boarded the ship, it was those who were apart of the 104th that had witnessed the most. with that in mind, acts of celebration were more mild than anything else. while you were glad, you were glad quietly.

still, something felt off. somebody was missing.

just as you were about to make a comment regarding the missing member of the squadron, a quick remark from sasha caught your attention.

"did you hear a sound just now?"

while the other two dismissed the thought, it was you that took it into a much more thorough consideration. compared to anyone else, sasha's sense of hearing was impeccable. while the others may have failed to realize it, she heard something. and with her senses mixed with your paranoia, you were quick to take the remark into account. out of instinct, you watched the door. the door was open, and one of your comrades from below remained missing. the door was open, and sasha heard something. the door was open, and it was vacant of any sort of movement.

the door was open, and someone slipped through.

a miniature figure with a barreled weapon pounced through the doorway and onto the aircraft, and at the sight of a single finger latched onto the trigger, your heart itself dropped. before anyone else had the chance to react, you did. seeing as though the muzzle was aiming toward the center of the flood, you were quick to lunge sideways, pushing whoever it was that stood before the armed figure out of the way. as you flushed whatever will you had to live into the force of your push, sasha simply looked at you in horror— the horror of having to survive, simply due to your own accord.

it was quick. it was immediate, the single bullet, plunging directly into your chest. it was quick to enter you, and it was just as quick to warp you of your senses completely. while you saw that you were falling, you couldn't feel the impact of the wooden floor beating into your back. you couldn't feel it. you felt nothing.

and while you felt nothing, connie felt everything. his entire universe, crumbling apart before him.

in a blend of absolute horror, you could see from your hindsight as he rushed to your side, palms immediately moving to cup your face. moving your blurred gaze towards him, he would shout at you. he would shout, but it was all unintelligible.

"no, no, no," he would mutter, fiercely shaking his head. you were in an absolute daze, and he couldn't sense what you were feeling. hell arose in the back, and your attackers were being mercilessly beaten into defeat. your friends, however, didn't leave your side.

tears brimming in her eyes, sasha would rush to get some sort of a bandage for your wound, which was bleeding profusely. before anyone could process anything, you were laying in a pool of blood, the crimson flow staining your uniform.

"goddammit— HURRY!" your lover would scream, eyes wide. your head lay in his lap, and his fingers tenderly graze the sides of your cheeks in a loving, desperate manner. soon enough, he would feel the raw set of tears begin to well at the corners of his eyes, too. this wasn't happening, this couldn't happen. not to you. dear god, not to you.

"look at me, y/n." he would say, to which you tried your absolute hardest to oblige. you tried, but as your life itself began to drain, you only struggled.

"you can't leave, baby. you can't go, not yet. not after everything we've been through, everything we've fought for! it's always been us, it's always been you. look at me!"

however, you couldn't look. no, you couldn't do anything. instead, you could use whatever strength you held, and mutter the very last of your words: "us."

it's always been us.

with that, your blood went cold. and as your eyes closed, and your skin paled, a blood curdling scream begging you to stay filled the air around you.

"there are so many people here who hate Rasse. the Nouveau i met? wouldn't have left anyone to hate him if he could help it, not unless he was actively using them. they'd be liabilities. he disposed of everyone who outlived his plan. so it doesn't make sense. "He slaughtered us both before we could be claimed."

He shifts, tail flicking at the tip.

"Rasse's control lasted almost a year. Some monster convinced him to let her go during that time, and later on convinced him to release the Queen as well. The two of them found a way to stop him, and the Queen died ripping every bit of power from him, ascending herself to Eternal far before her time. Afterwards, Rasse was alive but dazed, barely responding and seemed confused as the remains of the nation sentenced him. He only regained coherency during his attempted execution."

He sighs, shaking his head.

"It was a colossal failure and the Executioner barely escaped with his life. Rasse was instead imprisoned with the General as his warden." He grimaces. "That went... very poorly, to say the least."

He goes on.

"Kraken and I returned to life and we forced everyone beyond the Isle to forget. Those here were given the option to remember. Many did. The Queen rejoined us a few years later, and finally put a stop to his torment not long ago. But by then, it was already too late."

"I believe the entire situation was horribly mismanaged, but Kraken thinks much differently." Alika signs with a sigh. "And regrettably, he is far stronger than I and makes sure I am very aware of that fact."

The Dr. Angel Face Q&A Inventory

Hi loves. SInce I have been getting many questions regarding the Dr. Angel Face fic, I decided to put every question in this inventory. The questions have a link for the original asks (in the ones that there is no hyperlink, it is because they were part of the previous question.) I will add questions as they come in the future, so the list is going to be updated in the future.

How old is Dr. (Y/L/N)? Is she older than Calum? She was a child prodigy and graduated early (kinda like Maggie Pierce from Grey’s Anatomy). But she is definitely older than Calum. They met while she was in her final year as a resident and they’ve been together ever since. Now she is an attending, so it means she is in her late 20′s (for Dr. Angel Face, I wrote her to be around 28-29). So, I would say she is older than Calum by 4 or 5 years. But I didn’t focus much on her age, to be honest with you.

What is going on in the alternative part? I will not say much because I don’t want to spoil it, but it involves a storyline regarding Episodes 16x09 &16x10 from Grey’s Anatomy.

Does Calum’s family like Y/N’s family? Does Calum’s family like Y/N and vice versa? The families are not meeting very often, but they do get along pretty well. Remember (Y/N)’s mother calling her towards the end of Heat ? (Y/N)’s parents love that guy, he is funny, charming and overly supportive of their daughter, what is not to love? And Calum’s side of the family nearly worship (Y/N). I will explore more of their relationship on the 4th part of Dr. Angel Face.

Do fans like Y/N? How is the media treating their relationship? Now, the fans and media are divided. Most of the fans love (Y/N), but there are people who are also mad at her for stealing their fav, or accuse her of not paying attention to Calum just because Cal’s and (Y/N)’s love language is not like the other guys’ and their girlfriends. And of course, like I mentioned on Dr. Angel Face there have been instances in which people went to the ER and asked for Calum’s girlfriend. As of the media, Calum and (Y/N), definitely have been very low-key about their relationship. In the beginning, it was easier to hide, but after a while, people started to suspect. So, they decided to stop the chase and come forward about their relationship.

Would Y/N use Calum’s last name after their marriage? I feel like she wouldn’t legally change it. Like professionally, she still keeps her last name (my girl didn’t go to college, medical school, went through internship, residency, fellowship and became this strong ass neuro goddess to change her name, no ma’am.) But, I feel like she would adore being called Ms. Hood or Dr. Hood in her private life. Like her friends would actually start that to tease her but she would actually love it. And Calum would also love to call her Dr. Hood. Like, imagine walking up in the morning and making Calum breakfast, and he goes like, “Oh, thank you Dr. Hood” as she passes him his mug of coffee and he wraps his arms around her waist. Oh my God, I would melt. So, she actually wouldn’t legally change her name, but she would love letting her husband and friends call her by his.

Does Calum’s family have an issue with the age difference? So, the age difference is not that big now. I mean, on the last part I wrote Calum as his current age (maybe a year older than he is now), and I wrote her in her late 20′s. So, they aren’t that many years apart. But when they started dating, it was kinda weird for both their families to see them together, because they couldn’t see what Calum and (Y/N) had in common. Now, pretty much no one cares about it.

Does Y/N visit Calum while he is on tour? She doesn’t visit as often as the other girlfriends, and whenever she visits it is for just a few days (which is an issue in their relationship and I will DEFINITELY write more about it on the alternative chapter)

Do they get in trouble when Calum is visiting her on the hospital? I never really thought about it much, but there were definitely times they were caught, not only while going at it, but at times they were just hanging during (Y/N)’s free time, I guess I could put it like that. Now, there will be a scene or two of calum visiting on Dr. Angel Face part 4, so I will be able to give more details then. But they never really got in serious trouble, since (Y/N) was always exceptional while working

Does Y/N get along with Mali? She has a pretty good relationship with Mali. They don’t see each other very often, because Mali lives in the UK and (Y/N)’s work hours are crazy so it’s not easy for her to leave and visit. But they hang out whenever possible, and since they are so close age-wise, I can easily imagine them being friends.

Since Calum is a vegetarian, would Y/N be a vegetarian too? It is up to you that one, depending on whether it would be something you’d do or not. Keep in mind that the Dr. Angel Face fic is still a reader insert, just like the rest of my stories. In my head, I don’t really think that she would become a vegetarian if she didn’t want to be, just to please Calum. I feel like she would respect his choice and try to support him and join him on eating more plant-based, but she wouldn’t change if she didn’t feel like it was her choice. Also, a general tip for people out there, don’t change aspects of you just to please your partner, if you don’t feel like changing. You will feel trapped and forced to, and you’ll end up miserable.

Would they post about each other on their social media? Calum is always very low-key about his personal life and doesn’t really post frequently, so I think that would be a theme in their relationship too. He wouldn’t really post about (Y/N) on Instagram, but there would be occasions when he couldn’t help himself and post a cute picture of (Y/N) cuddling Duke, or a candid of (Y/N) drinking coffee. Now (Y/N) would be a bit more open on Instagram, she would post pics of him or short videos from their daily life, something that the fans would really appreciate. On Twitter though, whenever he would have his little twitter sprees, he would be bombarded with questions about (Y/N), and he would pick one or two of them to answer them in his significant funny way.

How would their careers effect their relationship? How good is their communication? Do they act as a safe space / comfort buddy for each other? I will touch a lot more on the hit their relationship takes due to their careers, on the alternative part. Basically, the plot for this one will revolve around what would happen if Calum was unable to keep the promise he gave (Y/N) when they first started dating ( “I want to be everything I can be to you.” He assures me; all I can do is stare at his lips, how nicely they move as he talks. “Cal, I told you before I don’t do the dating song and dance, and I told you the reason why. If… If this gets more, are you sure you will be ok with me canceling last minute because of emergency surgery? Are you willing to get into this whole thing?” I ask and he chuckles. “I told you before, I get you. I am willing to do it if you are.” He replies, resting his hand on my cheek. “Are you sure? Between my surgeries and your concerts, the time we will have…” I begin but he places his thumb on my bottom lip. “The time we will have together will be even more precious. I don’t wanna pressure you. If you want me to be just a friend, I understand.” He states, moving to pull his hand away, but my hand wraps around his wrist, keeping it there. “I want you to be everything you can be to me… I really do.” I whisper and his hand slides to the back of my head. “Then I will be everything.” He replies, licking his lips a little.)

Now, on the communication matter, on the main timeline of this AU, both of them make sure to give each other time to calm down (or in most cases, get some sleep to get their heads straight) before talking through their problems. There are a lot of moments when they are silent, to keep from fuming up. Most of the times, when they have a fight, it is because of distance or because they miss each other, so by the time Calum’s back from tour, or (Y/N) is off the service so she is home, the fight is forgotten. On the safety/comfort issue, to be honest, I wanted to include a scene in which (Y/N) had to deal with the death of a patient who was very important to her. I wanted to show how Calum would help her, what his reactions would be to (Y/N) almost breaking down, but the scene didn’t make the cut because I felt like it was too heavy on the course I wanted to take with this story. But definitely, Calum had to deal with (Y/N) being sad, or disappointed, or angry even, about her cases, which caused him to develop a coping mechanism to help her feel a lot better. And (Y/N) had to deal with all the times 5sos got overlooked by the music industry/awards/charts (all tea, all shade, I am looking at you Grammy’s and Billboard) and the way it affected Calum. Or with how frustrated he would get after sessions in which he wouldn’t perform as he wished, or with all the second-guessing and doubt that comes with putting something new out there (albums, tours, singles, you name it). So I can definitely picture them going through something like that, shutting everything out, holding each other close and whispering words of assurance. Or building a fort and watching movies in it, just to get their minds off whatever it is that is bugging them. Or just staying up talking, drinking coffee, helping each other see things through. I feel like (Y/N) and Calum are this couple that talks a lot, about anything that bothers them. I also feel that they would barely ever fight, they would just discuss things out, try to help each other see the other’s point of view.

Does Y/N visit on the studio, concerts, video sets or Friends of Friends events? Actually I am planning a studio visit, and a charity concert where Y/N visits him for the 4th installation of the original time line. It is going to be a long part, the 4th one

They seem to be a very sexual couple? Will there be mentions of experimentation in the upcoming chapters? I would like to explore that on the 4th installment of the main timeline. I feel like this one will be the longest yet since I have so many things I want to include in this story. Maybe I can also include that to the pool party extension. This couple is definitely a fan of public teasing and wearable toys (plugs, cock rings, Lush toys, you name it) I always wanted to show the BDSM experimentation they would be having. I feel like I have written such a healthy relationship for them that the portrayal of a healthy BDSM type of sexual relationship would be a lot fitting. I can tell you for sure there won’t be any depiction of their sexual life on the Alternative chapter I am going to write. I plan for it to be angst and focus on very different things.

How intense is the alternative part going to be? Is Cal going to cheat on Y/N? He is not going to unfaithful, no. And neither is (Y/N). The story will revolve around how hard this relationship is for them. (Y/N) is constantly preoccupied with her job, and Calum is away (on tour, promo, studio sessions). The story is going to be a what-if. What if the love they have for each other is not enough? What if Calum has had enough of (Y/N) putting other people above him? What if (Y/N) is tired of Calum being away? What if it is time for them to let go? The story, in regards to time, is going to occur after Heat. I am thinking about starting the story at 2 years they have been together. It will start with a couple of fights about (Y/N) cutting dates early due to emergency, then Calum spending hours in the studio, which results in them not spending time together. So, before he leaves for a promo tour, they decide it’s better they break up. But… that’s not the end of them, of course.

Who is Y/N the closest to out of the rest of the guys? I think she would be a lot close to Ashton. At first, she wanted to impress him because he is Calum’s best friend, but as they continued talking and hanging out, she would start admiring him, finding him a lot interesting. They share their love for Calum, both of them caring and loving Calum so much they would do anything for his happiness. And they are close, age-wise. I said on an ask before that Y/N is 4 or 5 years older than Calum, so that makes her 2 to 3 years older than Ashton. Ashton would think of her as a superhero (more on that on the Heat pool party extension), always asking her about her cases. Their friendship would be so amazing. I explore more of it on the Heat extension, as well as show Y/N interact with the rest of the gang a lot more on it.

Does any of Calum’s family members or friends have issues with their relationship and vice versa? I don’t see a reason why anyone would have issues with Y/N. She is a doctor, smart, caring, has a great job, loves Calum a lot and makes him very happy. Joy practically adores her; she is devastated when y/n and calum break up on the alternative part. Calum’s father also likes her very much and he knows that his son made the right choice when they started dating. Ashton and Y/N are practically besties, Luke and Michael find her charming and like her a lot with Calum. In the beginning, Sierra, Crystal, and KayKay thought she would be distant but found out she is actually a cool person. Other friends of Calum are totally ok with her. Y/N’s circle thought the match was a bit weird in the beginning, I mean, she is older and she is a doctor and he is a musician, it is not a lot common. But seeing them together leaves no doubt that they belong together. Everyone who matters to Calum and y/n approves of them, and that is all that matters to them.

Have they ever found the age gap to be intimidating? The age gap is barely an age gap. They are 4 years apart, it’s really not a big issue. It’s not like she is 30 and he is 18, they are both in their twenties, him mid-twenty and her lat-twenty. I really don’t see why 4 years would be so intimidating.

Did Y/N move in with Calum or did Calum move in with Y/N? Y/N was having a roommate while she was with Calum, some doctor from the hospital (in Grey’s Anatomy terms, it would be like Arizona living with DeLuca in season 12) so Y/N moved in with Calum before they purchased a house together when they decided their relationship was actually getting serious (that was around their 2nd anniversary)

What about their anniversary/ valentine’s day/ honeymoon? I feel that they would barely ever have the chance to celebrate those things like ‘normal’ people would. I feel like they would send each other flowers for the sake of it, with cute little notes full of inside jokes or spicy stuff (or possibly both) For their honeymoon, I think they would go on it months after their actual wedding. After the wedding, they would spend the weekend at a luxury hotel, And then, months after, when things would get a little chaotic for both of them (on a previous ask I mentioned y/n dealing with loss and calum dealing with disappointment), they would just take the trip. Somewhere warm and nice. I am thinking Fiji islands, then New Zealand, so they could visit Calum’s roots, and of course Australia. just for a few days, to see Calum’s family and wander around a bit. I am thinking that their honeymoon would actually be a month-long one, them just being together, no distractions, just to sink in the “married life” and set their minds straight. And I think that on the milestone anniversaries (e.g 5 years together, one year married), they would just go on little road trips. They would get a little RV and drive somewhere, finding cute little places to camp out.

How did the concept of the Dr. Angel Face fic occur to you? I get inspired by so many things. The Doctor Angel Face au was created kinda by accident. I wrote the first part, Fetish while watching an episode of Grey’s anatomy and I kinda wondered how I could fit my characters into the GA universe. The Fetish part was a request so I wanted to give something unique. I didn’t think I could actually cultivate it into a series. Then I wrote the Heat part. I was actually inspired by a Greek Trap song called Caliente (which was the original title of the story). I wanted the story to revolve around the sexual chemistry of the couple, and I actually didn’t plan on it being a part 2 to the Fetish story. But I started writing and the universe I was creating fit so well with the Fetish story, so I made a couple of changes to fit it in. Then people started liking the Doctor AU and asked for more. So I came up with the Dr. Angel Face part. I wanted it to be this cozy, Christmas story but didn’t want to limit it to just it. So, a follower of mine ( @saphseoul ) suggested a couple of things I should include into it, like their backstory. Their backstory was inspired by a story Ashton told on a soundcheck about the day the met Andy Deluca (basically, Ashton and Calum were in a car accident but they were fine so they sat on the curb and ate chicken tenders and drank milkshakes). I felt like that would be such a great backstory for them. And of course some parts of them are kinda inspired by the episodes of GA, but I try not to copy them. For the Alternative part of the Dr. Angel Face, I was inspired by something that might sound stupid, but it is actually the truth. I was actually inspired by a daydream. Back in December, I was working on the shittiest job I’ve ever worked, so to cope I built the scenario about the alternative (I quit from the job by the way). It is angsty and a bit torturing, to be honest, but like all my stories, it will have a happy ending. But I can get inspired by anything and everything. I have been writing for 6 years now, for the last 3 I have been writing daily, which helps me keep my inspiration flowing.

What can we expect from the future parts?

I can tell you that the alternative part is going to be the angstiest and sweetest part ever. Y/N is kinda a broody brat, always trying to provoke Calum (but honestly she is right, she is getting back to him for what happens at the beginning of the fic). And Calum is kind of a bitch but has a great arc. Even though it is an angst fic, I am not going to ruin my favorite couple, so it will have a soft ending. I don’t remember exactly when I have it scheduled for posting, because I have quite a few stories queued. For the 4th part of Dr. Angel Face, the fic begins right after the wedding in the hospital. I plan on focusing it more on them becoming a family (just the two of them plus Duke for this part), and their honeymoon. Plus, I think that I want the fic to focus more on how (Y/N) deals with Calum’s career ( I have in mind to include a Friends of Friends concert, maybe an award show). I consider cutting this part in half so it won’t be too long, so the second part will be more on their plans of having a baby together, including how realistic this would be, how they would handle the responsibility, plus I want to write something into this fic kinda like the Family Cuddles story I have with Ashton. And I have the prequel of the Dr. Angel Face. This will be their story from their meeting to them moving in together. I will also include some storylines of their lives before they got together. Those are my plans for the story this far. I don’t know if there will be more stories after I am done with those, but I sure hope so.

For some reason, I feel like Dr. (Y/N) and Maggie Pierce would have such a great friendship? Maggie is one of my fav characters (you can’t change my mind, I said what I said) and I think they would be really close. Y/N was also a child prodigy (I mentioned it before and I will write more on it on the Dr. Angel Face Prequel) and I feel they would bond a lot over it. On the Alternative Chapter, I wrote a lot about her relationship with Meredith and now I kinda regret not including Maggie more on it. Y/N is close with Amelia and Meredith so it makes so much sense that she would be with Maggie as well.

Who’s the hardest character to write? I don’t really have trouble writing for characters I guess (probably because I don’t go in-depth with characters). But I guess I will say (Y/N), since I had to look up medical terminology, fit her in an already existing universe (that of Grey’s anatomy).

Who’s the easiest character to write? The easiest character to write was Calum, hands down. Starting this fic I had already built him in my head so he was really written automatically.

Favorite scene you’ve written? It is so difficult to pick just one favorite scene. I guess it is on Part 3 (The Dr. Angel Face chapter), their wedding sequence. I think it captures the essence of their relationship, that they don’t need anything fancy to love each other, they just want to cherish one another on any chance they get. Writing that scene felt like writing the core of the couple, it is a lot more than just a wedding scene.

Hardest part about writing? The hardest part about writing in general is getting the perfect conditions to do so. My house is always noisy and I rarely have a proper workspace, so adjusting to my environment and being able to write unbothered is something I can’t do easily. Also, editing is very hard too. On the Dr. Angel Face fic, specifically, the hardest part was being able to keep a balance between fiction and realism. I don’t want my stories to feel unrealistic so I always strive to write things you would encounter irl (I hope I am successful at it, I am really trying hard)

Easiest part about writing? The easiest part about writing the Dr. Angel Face AU is the interactions between the characters, finding the reasoning behind what they do, and how the others react to their doings. You will see next week when I post the Alternative part that everything my characters do is justified by past actions and their relationships with others.

Omg doctor x cal is like my relationship goals!! So mature and healthy relationship. Because they have such a busy life I can see them enjoying the little moments. Like cuddling the first thing in the morning when they wake before work. Coming home together and making dinner together while listening to music. Like they’re the IT couple That they are. I wanted to write a relationship for Calum that would be drama and stress-free. And I wanted the relationship to have its little flaws but them always dealing with them the adult way. I really love the way that relationship has evolved throughout the fic and I am so excited to write the continuation of it. There are going to be so many little moments like those ones in the following parts (well, not in the alternative one, that one is aaaaangstyyyyy) It makes me so happy to see people love that relationship as much as I do. And I wish everyone finds a relationship like this one. Y’all deserve it

So I read this headcanon that said calum would totally refer to s/o as “the mrs” especially when talking to other ppl about her. I can totally see cal doing that for dr y/n.. talking to the boys, his mom, or in interviews I feel like he wouldn’t do it in interviews because people could misinterpret it as minimizing her and we all know Calum is too smitten with Dr. Angel Face to do that, but with the boys and his family, oh he would do it all the time. And Dr. (Y/N) would adore it, almost as much as she would adore being called Dr. Hood in private (like, not in the hospital, but Calum calling her Dr. Hood while they are being their goofy selves, or Ashton teasing her, oof, she loves it) But I also feel like Calum and Y/N would have a bit of a hard time calling each other “my husband” or “my wife”. Like, picture that: “My boyfriend is coming home tonight” “I thought you are married…” “Right… My HUSBAND is coming home tonight.” or Calum calling (Y/N) his girlfriend by accident and (Y/N) playfully correcting him. “You are starring at me. Stop.” “What? Can’t I just look at my gorgeous girlfriend?” “Honey, we are married. I am not your girlfriend anymore.” “Shit, I still can’t believe you are my wife.” Or Calum introducing (Y/N) to new people. “This is my ex-girlfriend, Dr. (Y/N) (Y/L/N).” “He means I am his wife now.” I can’t choose which one is more cannon, so I will be using all 3 in parts 4 and 5

Rockstar and a doctor dating... what a couple!! Their character development makes them so great and humble ppl. Like typically when ppl make so much money they have to be super flashy and buy crazy expensive Well, Calum gives off that down to earth vibe so, I don’t think he would be with someone who is flashy. Also, Y/N studied medicine and she is a surgeon, meaning she had her fair share of student loans to pay off, which caused her to be more considerate of how to spend money. They truly have a lavish home though and both of them have cars, but they never go above and beyond to flash their wealth. I will describe their house on Dr. Angel Face Prequel and on parts 4 and 5, it is truly a lovely home.

I think they’re house would be amazing. From what I imagine it’d be beautifully decorated.. simplicity and modern. Calum’s album plaques hanging & her doctorate degree hanging/ or her graduation pictures The have a glass case full of awards and degrees and a wall that is covered with album plaques (Y/N convinced him to actually hang them on a wall and display them in their living room instead of having them laying around). The glass display was built by Calum himself, as a little gift for Y.N once they moved in together. She had her awards and her degrees in a box in her old apartment, so Calum felt like giving her a proper place for them, with Y/N insisting his very own awards to accompany them. There are also a lot of framed pictures of them, kinda hang like a timeline; them being kids, teens, adults, Y/N’s graduations and Calum’s significant performances, album releases, overall achievements. And then pictures of them together, from dates, to anniversaries, to trips, then a few pictures they took of each other, or others took of them together (like candids of their cute little moments). And eventually their wedding and family pictures. A little fairytale hanging and showcased on their wall for everyone to see. The house is simple and has a touch of modern as you mentioned, but It is worth saying that they have made it absolutely personal. Every furniture was hand picked from antique stores or from retailers with a unique sense of style, but keeping a simplicity in every room to be able to decompress after a hectic day. The house took months to finish decorating and furnishing, due to the couple wanted every single thing in the house to have character, so they were looking for specific things. Plus, there was a lot of arts and crafts going on in the house; they painted it together, they built furniture together, they assembled things together. They did it while Calum was in a bit of a hiatus after dropping an album (think about the period after Youngblood and before CALM), so it was more of a project for him to keep busy. But Y/N actually enjoyed building a home with him. It was a sign that the relationship she had with Calum would last. I got carried away with this. I can’t wait until I can talk more about their house in the stories. Mostly on the prequel, since it is actually about what happens between them meeting and them getting married. But also on parts 4 and 5, with them changing from being just boyfriend-girlfriend to being a family (not necessarily having kids, but building more on their existing relationship).

I just realized how opposites really attract like dr. Y/n cal. Their lifestyles are so different. She was a child prodigy while he was a dropout. They’re so cute Yes, they are a bit different in that area, but they have quite a lot in common. Both are compassionate, considerate, loving people. They have a great sense of humor and a common code of communication and their moral compasses are matching. Plus, Calum legit is a cultivated person (the way he talks, the way he shows himself in the world, reveal that he is educated even though he is a dropout.) So they are both very smart people. They are very cute indeed and they act as a driving force for each other to become better.

Loved the story (Dr. Angel Face Alternative). Time line confused me a little. It takes place before heat yet the mention of planning for children doesn’t happen until dr. Angel face? It is an alternative, which means that this is a different way their story as a couple could have developed. I’ve noticed cal always has a baby girl in your fics is that intentional or random? Btw I loved the au of Dr Angel face seeing them expecting a daughter kinda made me think how it’d be if they were expecting a boy and how C would be around his baby boy. Huh, I never noticed. I guess every time I picture Calum with a baby, it is always a girl ( I love how soft he is for his mom and his sister, so I can’t help but melt at the thought of him with a baby girl). But on the main timeline, I had planned for him to have a boy. It fits the fic well, in my opinion, and since the part I posted yesterday was an alternative, I chose a girl, to highlight how different the alternative part is from the original AU

When do you plan to post the fourth part of Dr Angel Face? have you already written it or do you still need to finish it off? Haven’t written it yet, nor even started it. I am doing the prequel first (totally random pick, blame google for randomizing my requests). I will definitely post it in 2020, maybe for Christmas or the 5sos anniversary. I don’t know yet.

I can’t wait till doctor y/n and cal have a baby. they’d be the cutest parents ever!! They’d be super busy and hectic with their schedule but it would be so great. Calum would be an absolute sweetheart during (y/n)’s pregnancy, taking care of her but letting her do her thing, spoil (y/n) rotten, talking to the baby, visiting (y/n) even more frequently at the hospital to see if she is ok. Oh, he would be the softest dad ever. And then with the baby… he would be so cute and protective. taking care of the newborn to let (y/n) rest, and then when the baby is old enough to go to the hospital daycare, he would visit all the time to spend time with the baby and see the mama. He would take the baby to the studio as well, trying to get the kiddo into music early on. And then when (y/n) would be off service and Calum would be free of obligations, they would just get in the car and drive to the beach, or the woods or a hiking trail and have quality time with their baby.

Idk why but I feel like the baby would be a carbon copy of calum. His mom has some strong genes Their baby would so well loved, especially with being the first grandchild on both sides of the family. Between the band, y/n family, calum family, and y/n friends they would all love the baby there would be even more privacy now they had a baby. All the fans & media would be dying to see a picture of the baby. Both Mali and Calum are the spitting image of Joy and I am so sure the baby will look like her. (Calum’s baby pictures make my heart melt and I can only imagine y/n trying to recreate them, sending them to Calum’s side of the family so they can collectively have their hearts melt at the sight) That child would be spoiled, everyone showering him with gifts, playing with him for hours. He would be cuddled all the time, especially by (y/n) who when she wouldn’t be working she would not leave him on his feet. On the privacy matter, I agree with you 100%. The Hood-(Y/L/N) family is adamant about not exposing the baby to this world at such a young age. The world is dying for a picture but at best they get a look at the back of the baby’s head. Calum would occasionally answer questions about the baby, but always being careful about what he shares and they would barely ever post pictures with the child, even once he is older. (I can picture Calum posting a picture of his son wearing daddy’s merch, custom-made for him. Or (Y/N) posting a pic of the boys playing with Duke or playing soccer together, and the internet would have a collective meltdown. Of course, that would happen when the baby would be older, like 4 or 5 years old.) (Or maybe Calum would share a picture of baby number one holding baby number two, after completely hiding y/n’s second pregnancy from the world -well, friends and family would know but they would hide it from fans and the media)

Omg I just read your ask about dr. Angel face and cal!! I’m in love with dad cal the pregnancy will be so cute. I think cal would be protective because with being a surgeon is a difficult job but he knows she can handle herself so he lets her do her thing. The first time they hear the heartbeat on the ultrasound!! And setting up the nursery when they find time!! There is definitely some struggle for Calum during (Y/N)’s pregnancy. He wants to be protective and he wishes she would book fewer hours of surgery, but at the same time, he knows she wouldn’t do something to hurt herself and their baby. He also knows she is a doctor and that she knows a bit more than him. So he sits a bit back and makes sure she feels ok, takes care of her when she is home. They would both go crazy over the baby’s heartbeat. Calum would be shocked, never having experience with anything like that, plus knowing that’s his kid in there, he would be so emotional. And (Y/N) would also be so enamored by that bub’s heartbeat. I feel like her maternal instinct would only become stronger after that. I can certainly see them looking online for all the furniture (remember, they are trying to keep a low profile), and Calum would invite the boys over to help him. Everyone would just try to show off because everyone wants to be the baby’s godparent (joke’s on them, they already picked Mali for the role). And the walls of the nursery would be covered in paintings because Calum read it is good for the baby’s brain to have visual stimuli early on (one wall would be sea-themed, the other woodland-themed, then a rainforest-themed wall, and an Australian wildlife wall so the baby has an early connection to his root, and the ceiling just has the most amazing universe-themed painting, including constellations, planets, nebulas). Now, depending on their place in the room, the furniture would be of various colors to fit with the theme of the wall behind them. They didn’t want to have a color scheme for the room, they opted for the most colorful room (they both agree that a child’s room shouldn’t be boring, nor monochromatic)

What scene did you first put down? The first scene I ever put down was from Fetish, in which Y/N walks into their home to find that Calum working on some lyrics. I am lucky that I have a very linear way of writing, so whatever scene you see first on my fic, that is the start of it. Now, if we are talking about Dr. Angel Face as in the self-titled chapter, the first scene I came up with and made a plot for was the scene Y/N gets called and is informed that Calum has been hurt and he is in the hospital. That was the main point of the fic for me, since it was a great opportunity to show the characters interact, how protective Y/N is when it comes to Calum, as well as introduce a bit of a backstory of how they came to be.

What’s your favorite line of narration? I have so many favorites. Ooof, it is so hard for me to pick just one line of narration and dialogue. I loved the narration of the Alternative part (the whole story is a masterpiece if you are asking me and totally underrated). I feel like that alternative chapter points out all the things that could be wrong with Calum’s and Y/N’s relationship, but also how they would still make things work between them. I also loved writing their first 2 dates and their first kiss (those scenes are on the prequel, so I can’t wait to share the new part with you)

What’s your favorite line of dialogue? My favorite dialogue has to be their vows. Oh, my heart hurts when I think about it. Especially Calum’s “ Love does exist, and her name is (Y/N). “ I had a meltdown writing it. And Y/N’s “ My sweetest love, if fate wants me to be with anyone, if fate wants me to be anything more than I already am, I know that it’s you, I know that it is to be yours and you to be mine “… I am still not over it. As you might have seen, I do mostly dialogue in my stories. I feel like it is a better way to show the characters’ reactions and get the story moving.

Why’d you pick calum for the story? The story started from a Calum request, so I guess I didn’t really pick him. But, I chose to continue this fic with Calum because he is the most fitting. He is compassionate and down to earth and has a very calming aura, which I felt would go great with y/n and her profession. (But let’s be honest here, I picked him mainly because he is my favorite)

What was the character development process like? I don’t remember ever sitting down and having a plan of how I wanted the characters to develop. I understand how much they have changed from the original concept I had in my head, now that I am writing the prequel and I have to kinda start their relationship and them as individuals from scratch. I think I always let my characters grow through interactions with each other because it really feels more natural than following an arc strictly. If you really think about it, as people we grow and evolve through our interaction with others and through our experiences. And I guess that’s what I do to develop my characters.

As you were talking about doctor y/n... I think baby bumps are so cute!! I imagine it being so adorable. Especially with her work clothes. She would be such a great mom Y/N waddling around in her all-blue scrubs, like a little penguin is honestly heart-melting. She would get such guilt for trying to balance work and being a mom, especially after going back from her maternity leave. And Calum would feel the same too; just 2 months after the baby was born, he would have to leave for tour and he felt like he was missing out and he wasn’t helping y/n much. It would take them a while to realize that when they are doing what they love and they take care of themselves, they are better parents to baby Hood. They are both such great parents, baby Hood is so lucky on that. He is so much loved by everyone; parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles, his parents’ friends. He is a ray of sunshine; according to Calum, he gets it from his mama

Studying, while working and parenting.

Image from the minute school. Which in itself has good techniques for med school and courses in general.

To think that studying stops or relents after med school is a complete fantasy. One I used to have in med school.

In some ways its easier because everything is a bit familiar because you’ve been lectured and examined on it before. First pass is always harder. It’s also more challenging as you adapt to working and trying to implement studying into your schedule.

The key thing is making studying a habit. Whatever worked in med school, will be your go to crutch in residency or registrar training. Your best friend will always be past exam questions (or any Q bank in general).

Conflictingly, what worked in med school, may not work anymore in residency. I.e. anything that was more time consuming isn’t going to work anymore. You become more time poor. What were time savers to studying in med school, will remain valuable in residency.

Our director of education often tells us that we are now lifelong learners. And we’re going to have to figure out a process to facilitate this.

What i’m going to add is that it can be dynamic, because life will always change on you. I had a different study method when I was living on my own and working, than when I was pregnant. And obviously now that I’m primary care giver in the midst of returning to work. My habits also shift when I’m on night shift.

I’ve read a lot of study tips by students, here’s what I’ve tried (and what’s kinda worked so far) as someone who’s out of school with a young family:

Environment:

Ambience. Have an environment that feels conducive to learning. Entice yourself into it.

I used to love libraries and coffee shops.

In covid times, or in times with a baby to chase around, it’s not always an option anymore.

So, make-over your study space. If you have one. Or just spruce up where you live with a few things. Low budget items can be found on Society6 for instance or good old amazon. Facebook Marketplace is another source of 2nd hand cheaper items, it’s possible to request contactless pick up or use the postal service.

Alternatively, even simpler is just recreating at least the ambient noise via youtube and having a screen devoted to it with a relaxing wallpaper. Most sleep resources for babies recommend white noise, and now I find it relaxes me into studying too. There’s a tonne of 3 hour to 8 hr or live 24 hr streaming of ambient background noise with rain, library sounds, coffee shops sounds, softly playing music etc. Even Victorian time street noises.

Have a clean environment. I can’t remember the psychology behind this exactly, but if you have a messy space, subconsciously you can feel it. At minimum, make the bed, put laundry away. Out of sight. Out of mind. Deliberate practice.

From minute school and the link above. Like any skill to master (be it karate chops or scales on a musical instrument) the same goes with mastering clinical skills and knowledge. Work itself lends itself to this. Every patient admission, rounds or handover is the practice of medicine.

At home, it’s reading up on the interesting case on rounds afterwards and talking to other residents about it or your study group. Also flashcards. If you don’t want to make your own, download them. They’re everywhere. Ankicards are the best on the phone or laptop.

the alternative to flashcards? A white board or writing it down over and over on scrap or manila folders. I miss my white board, we don’t really have space for it since having a kiddo, so it’s sits taken apart, under the bed.

Having a single Qbank is also helpful. I find it less confronting than flashcards some days when I’m tired. There are super cheap ones out there, if you’re willing to experiment - such as PassMedicine (a UK based one for the MRCP).

Handsfree studying

It’s almost impossible to study while caring for kids. So many parents suggest ankicards, but i’m lucky to touch these unless they’re sleeping. Or unless they’re really small, or old enough to entertain themselves.

So I get around this with just having something to listen to in the background. I’ll still have my ambient noise on. (It really feels like I’m at cafe again, down to eavesdropping on the other tables)

Podcasts. My favourite is the curbsiders. But anything engaging and simple works, where it’s like a conversation on rounds. Something that is not a lecture, where the hosts ask the pertinent questions you always wonder but are sometimes afraid to ask or refer. Also a new fave, is the Curious Clinician. Saves a time consuming (and sometimes useless) google search or uptodate dive on why things we might come across on the wards happen. Like what causes fingernail clubbing - what’s the pathophysio?

Lectures are another option. It’s very passive learning and dry. I’ll be lucky to be able to get through 1 a week. But as they’re all recorded, it’s easy to leave in the background. It does require constant rewinding such that it can take hours to get through a single one hour lecture.

Similarly, so are other similar forms of teaching like case presentations now over Zoom are recorded. If low on time, I’ll pay close attention to Qs at the end or the feedback sessions.

Final option, an app or Qbank that talks to you. Firecracker has this option, but is a subscription service. Anki cards has a voice record option.

Accountability staying on track or having motivation is hard. So having someone to catch up with and present to is a must. For the FRACP if you’re in Australia, having a study group is essential for the written. Even if you have nothing prepared, or just have 2-3 answers to old exam qs. During busy peaks, that 2 hr window with my group could be the only time I have to study that week. By clinicals, aim to present to someone senior at least once a week. That in itself has sufficient fear factor to study pre and post. reading. Old school.

But read when you can, read the resources that easy to understand and digest. That jog your memory.

Best things are the clinical practice texts like Talley and O’Connor. Nothing fancy. Oldie but goodie. I’m lucky to have an hour a week to do this, but as I’ve only so much time, it’s a high yield little hour.

Scan the table of contents of high impact journals once a week. I maybe do this in line for coffee. Takes 5-10 minutes. I’ve subscribed to NEJM 360 for residents, so it lands in my inbox. It’s easier to understand and asks you questions to think over. Wikijournals is also a quicker read. Relatively anyway.

Most lectures and podcasts will refer to the landmark trials and give you the key points anyway, so I don’t allocate too much time to this.

adapt.

Being time poor requires adapting. But in the time that you do have to study, ironically your focus is so much better then when you had endless time.

SOAB–SSB-LP – Single Op, All Bands, SSB, Low Power 100 watts

SOSB – Single Op, single band, MIXED (6 different band entries, separately 160, 80, 40, 20, 15, 10 m)

MOST – Multi Op, All Bands, Single transmitter, MIXED

MO2T – Multi Op, Two transmitters, MIXED

MM – Multi Op, Multi transmitters, MIXED

SWL – MIXED

3.1 The participant can operate and submit the log for two different single band categories to be eligible for awards, for instance, 10m and 80m as per 11.3.

3.2 SOSB entrants may operate on other bands during the contest and are encouraged to submit their entire logs to help in the log cross-checking process. These contacts will not affect the SOSB score but will be credited to other stations.

3.3 Results will be listed separately for European Russia, Asiatic Russia and by each continent.

4. Intentionally left blank

5. General Rules 5.1. All transmitters, receivers, and amplifiers must be within a single 500-meter diameter circle. Antennas must be physically connected by RF transmission lines to the transmitters and receivers, except as described in 5.1.5.

5.1.1. Remote operation is permitted if the physical location of all transmitters, receivers, and antennas are at one station location as described in 5.1. A remotely operated station must obey all station license, operator license, and category limitations. The call sign used must be one issued or permitted by the Regulatory Authority of the station location.

5.1.2. The use of QSO finding assistance (DX cluster, CW Skimmer etc) is allowed for all entries.

5.1.3. The use of any calls other than participant’s for any reason including keeping the run frequency on any band, making schedules, DX-spotting, moving the multipliers is prohibited.

5.1.4. Self-spotting or soliciting contacts by any means other than amateur radio is prohibited.

5.1.5. The use of one and only one remote receiver located within 25 kilometers of the main transmitter site is permitted, in addition to the receiver at the transmitter site is allowed for all entries.

5.1.6. The use of any remote receivers other than described in 5.1.5 are prohibited. Violators will be subject to disqualification.

5.2. Single Operator participants may change bands and modes without restrictions. Only one signal can be transmitted at any given time.

5.2.1. Single Operator categories: one person (the operator) performs all operating, logging and spotting functions. Any assistance will result in reclassification into the Multi Operator category or disqualification at the discretion of the contest committee.

5.3. MOST stations are subject to a 10 minutes band change rule. Mode change within current band is allowed without limitations.

5.3.1. Start time is determined by the time of the first QSO made on the band. The band may be changed after 10 full minutes have elapsed.

5.3.2. Only one signal can be transmitted at any given time. Exception: two signals on two different bands are allowed if (and only if) the station on another (and only one) “multiplier” band works a new multiplier.

5.3.3. The “multiplier” transmitter is subject to its own 10 minute rule for band changes as described in 5.3.1.

5.3.4. Contacts which violate band change rules, should be clearly marked in the log with an X-QSO: key (as per 11.11 ). They will neither be counted nor penalized for an entrant, but will be counted for the station contacted.

5.3.5. Tampering with the QSO time to comply with the 10 minute rule (“rubber clocking”) will result in disqualification.

5.4. MO2T (Multi Op, Two transmitters): A maximum of two transmitted signals at any time on different bands. Each transmitter may make a maximum of 8 band changes in any clock hour (00 through 59 minutes). For example, a change from 40 meters to 80 meters and then back to 40 meters constitutes two band changes. Both transmitters may work any and all stations. A station may be worked twice per band (CW and SSB) regardless of which transmitter is used.

5.5. MM (Multi Op, Multi transmitters): A maximum of six transmitted signals, one per band at any one time. All equipment (transmitters, receivers, amplifiers, antennas, etc.) must be located in same DXCC entity, including remotely controlled equipment. Six bands may be activated simultaneously. Use a separate serial number sequence for each band. Limits in 5.1 do not apply.

5.6. All MIXED categories entrants can work the same station twice per band (CW and SSB).

6. Exchange: 6.1. Non-Russian stations: signal report + QSO number, starting with 001.

6.2. Multioperator (MOST, MO2T, MM) may alternativley use separate serial numbers for each band.

6.3. Russian stations: signal report + oblast code as per attached list.

7. QSO Points. 7.1. Russian stations:

QSO with your own country (Russia on your continent) – 2 points,

QSO with Russia on another continent – 5 points,

QSO with a different country on your continent – 3 points,

QSO with another continent – 5 points.

7.2. Non-Russian stations:

QSO with Russian station – 10 points,

QSO with your own country – 2 points,

QSO with a different country on your continent – 3 points,

QSO with another continent – 5 points.

7.3. Kaliningrad (UA2F), Franz Josef Land (RI1FJ) and Russian Antarctic stations (RI1AN) each count as a separate DXCC entity and a separate Oblast (double multiplier) with Kaliningrad counts as European Russia for scoring purposes.

7.4. Maritime mobile (“/MM”) stations do not count as multipliers and score 5 points for all participants.

7.5. SWL points are calculated along the same principles as described in 7.1 and 7.2.

8. Dupes 8.1. Dupes are contacts made with the same station on the same band and mode. If the first contact between stations is valid, dupes have 0 points value. If the first contact is not valid, then second (dupe) contact is accepted.

8.2. Dupe contacts are not penalized; they do not have to be marked in the log. All entrants are strongly recommended to leave DUPES in the log.

9. Multipliers There are two types of multipliers:

One multiplier for each different oblast contacted on each band, including UA2F, RI1FJ and RI1AN as per 7.3.

One multiplier for each different country (DXCC entity list + WAE multipliers list) contacted on each band.

10. Final Score 10.1. The final score is the result of the total QSO points multiplied by the sum of oblast and country multipliers.

11. General Log Submission Requirements 11.1. Logs are accepted in CABRILLO file format only.

11.2. Filename of your log should be yourcall.log or .cbr. Example: UA1AAA.log.

11.3. If a competitor claims two separate bands in the SOSB category (as per 3.1 ) these two bands should be clearly marked. Example: CATEGORY-BAND: 10m, 15m.

11.4. Russian stations will include their RDA in the LOCATION: field.

11.5. Web upload is the only method of log submission. Web upload of logs is available at: http://www.rdxc.org/asp/pages/wwwlog.asp.

11.6. All QSO times must be in UTC.

11.7. All sent and received exchanges must be clearly shown in the log.

11.8. The header of the electronic log must specify entry category and your full mailing address to receive the awards.

11.9. Multioperator logs (MOST and MO2T) must identify which transmitter made each QSO. For MOST entries RUN =0, MULT =1. For MO2T entries RUN1 = 0, RUN2 = 1. Alternative identifcation is not allowed. The logs without such identification will be reclassified to Check Log.

11.10. Logs aiming for the top 3 position in any contest category (excluding SWL entry) must indicate the frequency of every QSO made (using transceiver CAT) with a minimum resolution of 1 kHz.

11.11 Any QSO marked with the key X-QSO: will be ignored in your log and credit will be given to the other station.

12. Log Submission Deadline 12.1. Logs must be submitted to the contest sponsors within 14 days after the end of the contest (until 23:59 UTC on 04.04.2021).

12.2. Receipt of the log is confirmed on the “Logs received” page on RDXC Website.

12.3. Logs submitted after the deadline may be listed in the results, but are not eligible for awards.

13. Awards 13.1. pecial plaques for continental winners in the SOAB-MIX and SOAB-MIX-LP. For the complete list of sponsored plaques please visit http://www.rdxc.org/asp/pages/trophy.asp.

13.2. Every participant from Russia will receive a souvenir subject the terms below:

All-band entries confirmed at least confirmed 1,000 QSOs,

Single-band entries confimed at least confirmed 500 QSOs,

MIX-QRP entry confirmed at least confirmed 250 QSOs.

13.3. European participants will receive a souvenir for at least 750 confirmed QSOs with the Russian stations.

13.4. Non-European participants will receive a souvenir for at least 250 confirmed QSOs with the Russian stations.

13.5. All participants who have submitted the log will receive PDF participation certificates.

14. Contest-Related Information 14.1. Every participant who sends his electronic log will receive personal UBN-list with his claimed/confirmed results separately by bands/modes and QSO list, containing his errors and errors of worked stations. Confirmed Oblasts list for “Russia” award will be sent separately.

14.2. Russian Disctricts Award (RDA). All confirmed QSOs with the Russian stations will be atomatically accepted by the RDA without paper QSLs.

14.3. Any RDXC related questions should be sent to e-mail [email protected].

15. Judging The Russian DX Contest Committee is responsible for checking and adjudicating the contest entries which is done electronically. Participants are requested to follow the rules and best amateur radio practices. Violation of the rules of the contest or unsportsmanlike conduct may lead to disciplinary action by the Committee in its sole discretion.

16. Penalties Penalties are worth two times the QSO point value for the contact.

16.1. Penalty is appllied if:

incorrectly logged calls (Bad Call);

incorrectly logged exchange numbers;

16.2. QSO neither counted nor penalized for the following:

QSO time difference of more than 3 minutes (except systematic computer errors);

QSO bands or modes difference (except systematic computer errors);

10 minute rule violation for MOST (as per 5.3.1 and 5.3.3 above);

Band change violation for MO2T (as per 5.4).

16.3. The log will be reclassified into Check Log in case of more than 50% score reduction after checking.

16.4. RDXC Contest Committee decisions are final.

No One Flirts Like James Bond - 00Q

((Written for MI6 Cafe’s anon prompt gift exchange, week 2. I never would have written this fic if it wasn’t for this challenge.))

It is nothing new to them - or anyone around them, for that matter - to have M call them in to talk about what she deems ’improper conduct’ on the comms.

What amounts to improper varies from day to day, but more often than not, it’s about Bond propositioning Q in colourful detail, and Q (more or less) politely reminding him that he ought to focus on the mission, not pursuing his Quartermaster. Or, when it’s late and neither of them has slept for a long while, it’s about random, non-mission related topics like books or Bond telling him stories from his time in the Navy.

On one memorable occasion, it was a discussion about their favourite Disney movies, during which Q admitted to loving Snow White and Sleeping Beauty. Delighted, Bond had immediately taken to calling him a princess or my lady for the rest of the mission. He still calls him that every once in a while, much to the amusement of his minions and Q’s own embarrassment, and Q is completely unable to get him to stop.

(Secretly, however, he doesn’t mind it quite as much as he claims.)

Getting summoned to see Headmistress McGonagall, Bond had called it once, in full view of the whole Q Branch. Q had snickered, Bond had looked unbearably smug, and the name had stuck.

So now, whenever M wants to see them, everyone knows to tell them that they’re expected at the Headmistress’s office. Q would much rather they didn’t, but unfortunately for him no one asked for his input.

No one ever does when it comes to these things.

And no, Q is not bitter. He’s not. He gets it, Bond’s the double oh with the reputation and the licence to kill, neither of which he shows any shame in demonstrating when necessary. Or, as it happens from time to time, when not exactly necessary.

So Q sighs but keeps his silence, and goes to see M when requested, and listens to Bond alternate between humorous quips and clearly false excuses, and nods solemnly when M tells them that she expects better from them - “Especially you, Quartermaster!” - in the future. Then he leaves her office with Bond trailing after him like an overgrown duckling, tolerates the arm Bond eventually wraps around his shoulders, and gives Bond something to explode or a prototype to test when it becomes clear that the agent won’t stop bloody following him around otherwise.

Q gets data from Bond to analyse either way, so it’s not exactly a hardship to give in to the subtle manipulation he knows the man capable of using; and as it also gives him back his privacy, he feels it’s an adequate deal.

It goes on like this until that one day when it doesn’t.

It starts as a normal post-mission bright and early morning at Six. Q arrives relatively late - for him, that is - after half past eight, goes to get himself a cup of tea, and gets intercepted on his way to his office by none other than Bond.

“Good morning, Q,” Bond greets him, looking far more chipper than Q feels that he ought to, after what had been a gruelling ten-day mission in Georgia followed by a long international flight.

“Good morning, 007,” he says. ”I didn’t expect to see you quite this soon.”

“What can I say, I missed you,” Bond smiles and lets his gaze move up and down Q’s body in clear appreciation.

“Well, I did not miss you,” Q lies as he rolls his eyes at the blatant way Bond eyes him. Sadly, that is nothing new in Bond’s ongoing quest to drive his Quartermaster spare by flirting with him, either, so Q has mostly gotten used to it.

“That hurts,” Bond says, looking at Q with those big blue eyes of his. “I was really looking forward to seeing you again.”

Q hides his sigh behind his mug of tea and takes a fortifying sip. “I assume you have your kit with you?” he says.

Bond nods. “I do.”

Q is about to tell him to follow him into his office when he sees R approaching them. He doesn’t exactly need her telling them that the Headmistress is expecting them, as lately it had happened like clockwork after practically every single mission he’d been Bond’s handler, so he simply nods at her.

“007, leave your kit to R,” he tells Bond instead, and waits for the man to do so before heading towards the lifts and expecting Bond to follow him. Bond does, and he keeps staring at Q the whole journey to M’s office. Q tries his best to appear unfazed, but he cannot deny feeling relieved once they reach their destination and are asked to go in.

Q takes his place on one of the chairs in front of M’s desk and hears Bond do the same next to him. He doesn’t look at him, however, instead keeps his eyes trained on M, whose expression is perfectly unreadable.

Q admits to himself - only to himself - that he has a bad feeling about this.

“Q. 007,” M says flatly.

“Yes, Ma’am?” Q asks.

“You’re aware of why I asked you here.” It’s not a question but a statement, and neither Q nor Bond even thinks about reacting to it in any way.

“I have read the mission transcript, and while I had been expecting something, it sure as hell wasn’t this.”

Q blinks and, despite his better judgment, glances at Bond questioningly. There’s a hint of a smile playing about the man’s lips, and Q frowns lightly at that. Bond, however, is not looking at him but at M.

“I can see that Q is still confused. Shall I refresh your memory?” M continues and pulls out a sheet of paper, setting it in front of them. Q blinks again and looks down at the page.

➡️➡️➡️Q: Do you have the data? 007: Yes, Q, I have it. A bit busy right now, though. (sound of gunfire, followed by rapid typing and a bit of unintelligible muttering) Q: 007, there’s a hidden door on your left. I’m opening it in thirty seconds, and you’ll have no more than a minute to get to the other end of the corridor. 007: Acknowledged. Q? Q: 007? 007: Marry me? (silence) 007: Traditionally, when one is asked a question, one tends to reply to it. Q: Bond! Stop bloody joking around and focus! 007: Still waiting, here. Q: Traditionally, when one is asked such a question, one has previously engaged in something called dating with the person who did the asking. 007: I have asked you out. Several times. You keep telling me no. I thought I’d go all out. Q: 007, we’re not having this conversation right now. The door opens in ten seconds. 007: If not now, when? Q: Five seconds! 007: At least promise me you’ll consider it? I won’t move a muscle unless you say yes. Q: Bond! 007: Q. Q: … I promise. Will you now bloody move? 007: With pleasure.⬅️⬅️⬅️

Q finishes reading the underlined and highlighted lines of the transcript and feels himself blushing to the very tips of his ears. He’d forgotten about this particular bit of conversation, but now he remembers it. He remembers having made a threat of his own to Bond, afterwards, when the man had returned to his hotel room. He also remembers Bond laughing at him, and telling him that he’d come for his answer as soon as the mission was over and he was back on British soil.

Q absolutely refuses to turn his head to see the expression on Bond’s face.

He doesn’t want to look at M, either, but he is no coward. So he looks up at her and keeps his expression carefully blank. (He has a feeling that M still sees right through him, though.)

“What do you have to say for yourself?” M asks, and her gaze is directed at Bond alone. Q feels inexplicably better when he realises this.

Then he gets an idea.

“Yes! A thousand times yes!”

Bond stares. He opens his mouth and then closes it again. Q feels proud at having rendered him speechless.

”What, cat got your tongue, Bond? I thought you wanted me to say yes.”

M looks at him and then at Bond, and starts laughing. There are honest-to-god tears in her eyes, and Q sees Bond colour ever so slightly, especially around the ears.

He likes Bond’s ears, always has. They look even more fetching like this.

Q raises his eyebrows at Bond, as if to say, “Well? I’m waiting.”

“I’m, ah, happy to hear that, Q,” Bond finally manages to say. For some reason, that makes M laugh even harder, and Q cannot stop a grin from forming.

“I’m glad,” he says lightly.

“Well then,” says Bond, slow and steady, “I suppose the only question that remains is whether you’re okay with having the wedding in a week or two, or if you need a bit more time to plan it. And if you prefer a diamond ring or a plain one.”

He also settles a hand on top of Q’s thigh, which causes Q to startle. M has, by now, gotten her laughter under control, and she shakes her head lightly when she sees it. Q swears he sees amusement in her eyes, though.

“I suppose that’s settled, then,” she says, fully professional once more. “I’d tell you not to do it again, but we all know how well that would go. Dismissed.” But before either of them has time to react, she adds, “I expect an invitation to the wedding.”

Then she looks down at the papers before her, and that is a cue for Q and Bond to stand up.

“Come then, princess, I’ll walk you to your castle,” Bond says, and Q flushes in embarrassment (for having M read about Bond calling him that is one thing; having her hear him do it is another matter altogether). He wants nothing more than to get away from M’s stare, so he keeps his mouth firmly shut and follows Bond out of her office.

Outside, once the door has closed after them, Bond wraps his arm not around his shoulders but his waist instead, pulling him close. Q lets him. He thinks he’ll let Bond take him out to dinner, as well.
